FLORENCE, Italy - The common perception of manufacturing is getting upended as 3D printing disrupts the luxury market, according to the director of Wired Consulting at the Condé Nast International Luxury Conference April 22.

As 3D printing becomes widespread and scanning technology becomes more sophisticated, the value of an object's digital file may surpass the value of the object itself. In such a situation, the democratization of counterfeiting, similar to its effect on the music industry, may eat away at exclusivity.
