LVMH-owned Champagne house Dom Pérignon is drawing inspiration from the natural world.

The brand collaborated with Copenhagen-born, Stockholm-based artist Mathias Bengtsson on a limited edition collection of 60 Champagne bottles encased in vine-like sculptures. Chef de Cave Vincent Chaperon guided the project.

Inspired by nature
Mr. Bengtsson's creative process explores the intersection of nature’s intricacies and advanced technology.

For this project, an algorithm mimicking plant growth created each sculpture’s spindly tendrils. The designs were then brought to life with the aid of 3D printing.

Each piece was cast in bronze before being submerged in plating baths to achieve their finishes. Finally, each sculpture was hand polished.

The collaboration includes 60 numbered pieces in aurate and pale-rose colorways. The gold iteration enwraps 40 bottles of Dom Pérignon Vintage 1999 Plénitude 2, while the 20 pink versions encircle bottles of Dom Pérignon Vintage 2000 Plénitude 2 Rosé.

The Champagne of the Dom Pérignon Vintage 1999 Plénitude 2 was born from a year of unexpected weather. The spirit's body resonates with umami flavor while the middle is fruity. Meanwhile, the Dom Pérignon Vintage 2000 Plénitude 2 Rosé came from a year of cold and rain followed by heat and storms. The extreme weather produced a balanced palette with a round mouthfeel.

French entrepreneur Daphné Aubé, founder of Caractères Paris, orchestrated the collaboration between the brand and artist. Two years ago, her company organized another collaboration between Dom Pérignon and artist and ceramist Juliette Clovis.

In Oct. 2024, the Champagne house unveiled an exclusive vintage drop inspired by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat (see story).
