Italian fashion house Dolce & Gabbana is starting a new retail chapter in New York City.

It has completed a multiyear renovation project, revealing a refurbished store spanning more than 63,500 square feet at 695 Madison Avenue. The five-level boutique features a bar and lounge and dedicated beauty space, including a private salon, as well as in-house tailor and made-to-measure services.

Offering shoppers a personalized experience, the boutique stocks men’s and women’s ready-to-wear and accessories, fine jewelry and watches and select pieces from Dolce & Gabbana’s Casa home collection.

The space, unveiled in March, contains a Made-to-Measure station on the second floor and a new bar and lounge on the fourth. The flagship also sells makeup and fragrances from the brand’s beauty range, including scents from the exclusive Velvet Collection.

Continuing the brand’s collaboration with American architect Eric Carlson and his Paris-based studio Carbondale, the project honors a historic structure.

The building was originally designed by American architectural firm McKim, Mead and White for American restaurateur, caterer, confectioner and hotelier Louis Sherry in the late 1920s.

Leasing the former flagship home of Hermès in 2023, Dolce & Gabbana has worked with New York City’s Landmark Preservation Commission to “maintain the beauty and heritage of the building exterior, while fully renovating and refinishing the interior.”

Its existing façade has been repaired and restored, with double-height windows that lead up to a glass penthouse. All around, enhanced exterior transparency welcomes passersby into the brand’s world.

Inside, a circular staircase crafted from black granite is topped by a skylight that floods the space with sun. Materials such as white acid-etched sapphire glass, eucalyptus wood and black velvet create contrast throughout.

Outside of Manhattan, Dolce & Gabbana appears laser-focused on introducing experiential retail environments in key global cities, opening a 16,000-square-foot store in Saudi Arabia in December (see story).
