French fashion house Dior has announced the winners of its fifth iteration of the Dior Photography and Visual Arts Award for Young Talents.

The jury for this year’s award included executives from Luma Arles, Christian Dior Parfums and more. Fourteen finalists were called to craft work that reflected the competition’s theme “Face to Face.”

Honoring talent
The full jury for this year’s award, chaired by Nigerian photographer Samuel Fosso; Maja Hoffmann, founder and president of Luma Arles; Simon Baker, director of the Maison Européenne de la Photographie; Jérôme Pulis, international director of communications for Christian Dior Parfums; photographer Estefania Peñafiel Loaiza and Swiss multidisciplinary artist Maya Rochat.

The 14 finalists named included Emilio Azevedo, Joseph Craven, Gael Del Rio, Rachel Fleminger Hudson, Yuka Iwahashi, Fernanda Liberti, Ashley McLean, Sophie Meuresch, Thando Mfundo Ngidi, Youngjoo Sul, Jesus Torio and Kaiyuk Wong.

Although the artists’ artistic styles and approaches to the Face to Face theme were different, universal dedication to the artistic craft was palpable.

The jury awarded Rachel Fleminger Hudson, from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, the “Prix Dior de la Photographie et des Arts Visuels pour Jeunes Talents.” She will receive a 10,000 euro, or $10,055.55 at current exchange, a grant from Dior, as well as a commission for creative work.

Special mention awards from the jury were awarded to Margaux Laurens-Neel from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris and Lin Yuhan from the Tokyo University of the Arts.

Photos from the winner and work by the other finalists will be displayed in the Parc des Ateliers at the Luma Arles Foundation through Sept. 25.

Dior continues to illustrate its dedication to various forms of artistic expression.

Last November, Christian Dior gave consumers a glimpse into the makings of dreams with some new behind-the-scenes footage.

In two short vignettes, Dior spotlighted artists Billie Zangewa and Katerina Jebb, who worked on the “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition. The videos portray the artists’ passion and the meticulous processes behind their work, a reflection of the thoughtful ethos that serves as the basis of both the Designer of Dreams exhibit and the brand (see story).
