Airline company Air France is staying grounded with its debut signature home fragrance.

The AF001 fragrance was created in collaboration with Francis Kurkdjian, master perfumer and artistic director of LVMH-owned perfume label Maison Francis Kurkdjian, and took over two years to perfect. The home fragrance will be introduced at select Air France lounges at Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport starting on Jan. 15.

“The Air France travel experience now elevates all five senses: sight, with the haute couture uniforms of our staff, our cabin interiors and the meticulous design of our lounges, taste with the delicious dishes on the menu on board, touch with the soft fabrics of our seats, sound with our playlists on board and now smell with this prestigious signature fragrance,” said Fabien Pelous, senior vice president of customer experience of Air France, in a statement.

Scent of the skies
The name AF001 references the Concorde flights that would travel between New York and Paris in the late 1970s, and evokes the codes of Air France while reminding passengers of their first plane ride.

The calming scent combines notes of mimosa from the south of France with hints of jasmine and rose for an olfactory journey.

"I'm very proud to have created Air France's first signature home fragrance," Mr. Kurkdjian said, in a statement. “It was the illusion of a ray of sunshine on the wings of an aircraft that inspired me to create this light, fresh and comforting home fragrance."

Alongside the entrances, customers will discover the scent in the lobby, lounge, La Première suites and the lounges located in terminals 2E halls L and M, 2F and 2G. The company will roll out the scent in lounges elsewhere in Paris and globally in the coming months.

In May 2024, the airline introduced haute cuisine to the skies with its brand-new culinary offerings created by triple-Michelin-starred chefs Glenn Viel and Arnaud Lallement (see story).
