Italian automaker Maserati is announcing a strategic appointment.

Effective Oct. 1, 2024, Maria Conti, the company’s chief communication officer, will head its Corse motorsport activities division. Ms. Conti will report directly to Maserati CEO Davide Grasso and operationally to Jean-Marc Finot, senior vice president of Stellantis Motorsport.

“I would like to thank Giovanni for the passion with which he has supported Maserati's return to the track and for helping to make Maserati Corse a reality,” said Mr. Grasso, in a statement.

“We have begun to write an important new chapter in the 110-year history of our brand, which has returned to where it began, having racked up victories, satisfaction and major results on circuits all over the world,” Mr. Grasso said. “I wish Giovanni the best for his upcoming professional challenges, where he will be taking a leading role.

A professional background in premium and luxury brands supported Ms. Conti, who is currently on maternity leave, in her role as CCO of Maserati.

Once the executive returns, she will slot in at Maserati Corse, helping enhance the motorsport entity’s competitive edge. She succeeds former CEO Giovanni Sgro.

Mr. Sgro’s two-year stint at the company involved, according to a statement, “bringing Maserati back into its natural environment, the track and directed all operations relating to the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship and the Fanatec GT2 European Series.”

The former Corse CEO also aided in the development and launch of the exclusive Maserati MCXtrema halo car.

“Maria is a member of the Maserati Family,” said Mr. Grasso, in a statement.

“I am particularly proud that a woman will now be leading our brand’s activities on the track and bringing her expertise, energy and enthusiasm to motor racing.”
